These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Karma IO LLC ("we", "us"), a limited liability company registered in Wyoming, United States. By downloading, installing, or using the Kafma desktop application, you agree to them.

The software

Kafma is a desktop client for Apache Kafka®, available under two plans:

  • Free — free forever, with a limited feature set, for personal and commercial use.
  • Pro — a paid subscription that unlocks additional features.

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use Kafma in accordance with these Terms. We retain all rights, title, and interest in the software.

Pro subscriptions

Kafma Pro is an annual subscription, billed at the price shown at checkout. Payments, billing, and applicable taxes are handled by Polar Software, Inc. as merchant of record, and Polar also provides our license service. Your purchase is also subject to the Polar Buyer Terms, and Polar handles personal data under its Privacy Policy.

Subscriptions renew automatically each year. You can cancel anytime through the customer portal linked in your receipt and subscription emails; cancellation stops future renewals, and Pro stays active until the end of the period you've already paid for.

Refunds

First-time Kafma Pro purchases can be refunded within 14 calendar days of purchase — email [email protected]. This guarantee does not cover renewals, reactivations, repeat purchases, or purchases previously refunded; to avoid an unwanted renewal, cancel before your renewal date. We may deny requests involving fraud or refund abuse. An approved refund terminates the associated Pro license. Nothing in this policy limits rights you have under applicable law.

Licenses and devices

Each Pro license is for one person and may be activated on one device at a time. You can move your license to a new device by deactivating it on the old one in the app; if the old device is no longer available, contact support. Licenses may not be transferred between people, shared, or resold.

License validation and offline use

Kafma Pro activates and periodically validates your license through our license service — normally every 7 days. If the license service can't be reached, Pro features remain available for up to 14 days from the last successful validation. If validation doesn't succeed within that window, Kafma temporarily reverts to the Free plan until it does.

A license reported by the license service as expired, disabled, or invalid, or activated beyond its device limit, may lose Pro access immediately, without the offline period above.

When a subscription ends

If your subscription expires, reaches the end of a cancelled period, or fails validation as described above, Kafma reverts to the Free plan and the Free plan's limits apply: your currently or most recently used cluster remains accessible while additional saved clusters are locked, Console tabs beyond the Free limit are locked, and other Pro-only features become unavailable. Nothing is deleted — your cluster configurations, tabs, and local data are all retained, and everything unlocks again once valid Pro access is restored.

Acceptable use

You may not share, sublicense, or resell license keys; circumvent license validation or plan limits; or reverse engineer, decompile, or modify the software except where applicable law permits.

Your responsibilities

Kafma is a tool for operating Kafka clusters, including destructive operations such as deleting topics, resetting consumer offsets, producing messages, and changing configurations. You are responsible for the credentials you use, the permissions they carry, and the operations you perform. Safety features in Kafma, such as production guardrails, are assistive and do not guarantee prevention of mistakes. Maintain your own backups and access controls, and verify operations before running them against production systems.

Disclaimer of warranties

Kafma is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the software will be uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every Kafka distribution or environment.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Karma IO LLC will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, or for loss of data, profits, or business arising from your use of Kafma. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.

Termination

We may suspend or terminate your license if you materially breach these Terms. You may stop using Kafma at any time. Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive.

Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time. The date above reflects the latest revision; material changes will be noted in the changelog. Continued use of Kafma after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Wyoming. This does not limit any mandatory consumer rights you may have under applicable law.
